Charles Valton was born in Paris on January 26, 1851. He is in turn the pupil of the two masters of animal sculpture of the 19th century, BARYE and FREMIET, also directors of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, where the young Valton spends most of his time capturing the postures and anatomical details of the residents of the Grande M\u00e9nagerie.
\nFrom 1868 until 1914, Valton regularly participated in the Paris Salon, where he exhibited more than 70 animal models and won several medals. In 1883, he was a professor of sculpture at the Germain Pilon school, and in 1906 he received the Legion of Honor for his entire body of work.
