Description
This scarf is designed after a painting shown in the History Museum of Luxembourg City, representing Governor Mansfeld in ceremonial armor. The breastplate is decorated with arabesques together with war and peace attributes, typically from the sixteen century. Pierre Ernest de Mansfeld was governor of the duchy of Luxembourg under Charles the fifth and Philippe II of Spain. In 1546, the emperor Charles V awards him the golden fleece as a recognition for his part in the struggle between the Habsbourg of Spain and the Valois of France for domination in Europe.
