This seated bear, sculpted by the great animal master Antoine-Louis Barye (1796-1875) in the 1830s, is one of his most famous works. Barye excels in confrontation scenes, but he also knows how to show more playful and touching postures like that of this bear which seems to be playing with its paw like a child.
