Description
This rare work of art from 1903 was made when the artist was barely 20 years old. It is a masterful translation of the technique used by Rembrandt Bugatti from the beginning of his career. A true aesthetic revolution at the end of the very classical 19th century, the traces of modeling remain visible, moving away from naturalism and yet capturing the truth of the animal, in a stylization close to that of the great impressionist painters of his time. The original cast of this lioness was made by the famous Hebrew foundry, and only four copies have been listed in the artist’s catalog raisonné, all belonging to private collections.
