Description

Antoine-Louis BARYE (1796-1875) is the undisputed master of 19th-century animal sculpture, an emblematic artist of Romantic sculpture. His masters were Antoine GROS and Eugène DELACROIX. Throughout his career, he executed true masterpieces of anatomical precision, which express a perfect mastery of the reproduction of movements and characters. Today, his work is exhibited at the Louvre Museum, the Orsay Museum, and in many other major museums around the world. He has influenced generations of sculptors throughout the world, such as FRÉMIET, VALTON, MÈNE and TRÉMONT. This art bronze bas-relief, designed as a decorative element of a clock or marble base, was created in the 1820s and produced by various foundries during the 19th and 20th centuries. The ancient cast is on display at the Musée Bonnat in Bayonne, France.
